The AWCI Awards of Excellence recognises the people and the excellent work completed by AWCI members.
All members of the Association of Wall & Ceiling Industries of NZ Inc are invited to participate in this national competition in various categories.

People Awards
Unsung Hero
Recognises office-based roles such as administrators, quantity surveyors, health and safety professionals, who make significant behind-the-scenes contributions.
Future Star – Rising Leader
For those staff, particularly women, ‘on the tools’, including apprentices, demonstrating exceptional potential and leadership qualities.
Criteria for these awards are:
- List years of experience in nominations.
- Nominations can be self-submitted or by others.
- Supply supporting testimonial.
- List key achievements and career highlights.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety and best practices.
- Evidence of making positive impact or serving as a role model.
Service to Industry
This prestigious award is to recognise long-serving stalwarts of the Interior Construction industry who through their expertise, long-service and determination have contributed significantly to the development of one or more interior contracting or supplier / manufacturing companies. This award is separate from an AWCI Life Membership.
Criteria for this award is:
- Recognise someone who has operated within the interior construction sector for more than 20 years.
- Has given significant service to one or more interior construction companies (contractors or suppliers) without necessarily being involve with the Association.
- Has provided significant and outstanding services to the companies they have worked for.
- Has been recognised by the nominating company or wide industry for their contribution to numerous projects.
Technical Awards
Technical / Creative Award
This Award recognises a project that had difficult technical aspects requiring innovation, creativity and workmanship to complete, OR recognising projects that were especially creative / innovative providing a striking and impactful interior. Recognises specific technical difficulties or challenges during a project that may have required multiple technical experts – possibly across multiple companies – to be applied to a project.
Criteria for this award is:
- The project was especially challenging or required careful and considered delivery.
- Open to contractors and suppliers / manufacturers.
- Recognises projects that delivered a particularly creative or impactful solution.
- Recognises a project that use materials in an innovative or creative manner to provide a striking solution for the client.
Residential Project of the Year
One category for all of the residential project entries. There is no price limit to this category, simply the application, workmanship and delivery of an outstanding residential project. This could include fixing, plastering, unique products or anything as per the project specifications.
Commercial Project of the Year
Commercial project of the year awards are split into the following categories:
- Commercial Project of the Year under <$100k
- Commercial Project of the Year between $100k – $500k
- Commercial Project of the Year between $500k – $1M
- Commercial Project of the Year over $1M
Note: Contractors will only be permitted a maximum of 3 entries across all the categories.
Social Media / Marketing
Recognises AWCI members that have developed and introduced positive social media / marketing ideas to their business – this could also extend to enhancing the interior construction sector through their marketing or social media ideas. This award is open to all AWCI members – contractors, suppliers and manufacturers. The intention behind this award is also to demonstrate to other members the possibilities that exist with using innovative marketing to interior construction businesses.
Heritage / Fibrous Plaster Award
This award celebrates the spectacular work completed on Heritage projects or using fibrous plaster.
People’s Choice
The People’s Choice of the Year award will be voted on by members prior to the Trade Show event through online voting.
Entries
All entries will be judged by selected panels with expertise in each area.
